Info: BMW Brake Energy Regeneration.

To save energy and reduce the vehicle’s fuel consumption, this system controls the times at which the alternator charges the battery. Conventionally, a car’s alternator runs continuously and thus charging is always available to the battery; in the Gran Turismo, it charges only when the vehicle is decelerating or braking; otherwise, it freewheels, drawing virtually no power from the engine. An electronically controlled clutch, somewhat similar to that used with the air-conditioning compressor, is added to engage and disengage the alternator.

Accommodating the less frequent charging is a special, more powerful battery that can satisfy a contemporary vehicle’s high electrical demands without access to continuous charging. The battery uses a technology called “glass mat,” in which its internal plates are separated with saturated absorbent glass-boron silicate rather than the usual liquid electrolyte. This construction sharply reduces the battery’s conversion of charging energy to heat, and can provide the necessary electrical power for longer periods between charges.

2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI S206 NBR Challenge Package

Tokyo, November 24, 2011 – Subaru Tecnica International Inc. (STI) is pleased to announce the launch of the SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI “S206”, special performance edition. The model will go on sale today through Subaru dealerships in Japan.
Based on the 4-door SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI, S206 is the newest model in STI’s 'S' series. This series dons the crown of STI tuned cars with advanced driving performance and exclusively-made items in both interior and exterior designs. As with former STI models such as S204 and R205, S206 is founded on the IMPREZA WRX STI line.
In addition, “NBR CHALLENGE PACKAGE” model will be released to commemorate the class win at 24 Hours Nürburgring endurance race held in June, with the addition of a carbon roof and original dry carbon rear spoiler. The exterior design incorporates racing car motifs and has an enhanced sporty feel.
S206’s body and engine were tuned to perform as expected of STI’s best model. The body employs exclusive Bilstein shock absorbers, STI coil springs, a flexible tower bar (front), and a flexible draw stiffener (front). While improving straight-driving performance, motion is steadied when going into corners so that precise and quick turning is possible. Plus, “Michelin Pilot Super Sport” tires provide refined driving comfort in combination with “BBS” 19-inch aluminum wheels made only for this model.
In the exclusively-made engine, the weight balance between piston, connecting rod, and crankshaft is optimized to enhance the rev feel. Along with a ball bearing turbocharger, ECU (Engine Control Unit) with STI tuning, and a sports muffler with lowered back pressure exhaust - all of which were designed for this model - the engine can deliver 235kW (320PS) in maximum output and 431N.m (44kg.m) in maximum torque. The accelerator response is heightened and low to mid range torque increased, thereby offering better driveability.
On the outside, the lower front spoiler and front fender outlet grille, both designed for this model, and the trunk spoiler are among its distinctive features. The newly-made front grille and side garnishes were also employed for aerodynamics improvement and a high grade appearance.
In the interior are exclusively-made items such as a genuine leather-wrapped steering wheel, 'RECARO' racing bucket seats, and seatbelts. Together they create a refined appearance and feel, appropriate for this flagship model.

S60 Turbo from Volvo

The S60 T4 is priced at RM220,000, while the T5 costs RM255,000 OTR without insurance.

The unit in the T5 is a 2.0-litre with 240 hp and 320 Nm of torque, pretty impressive figures that trump even Volkswagen’s TSI engine in the Golf GTI. The S60 T5 does 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 230 km/h.
The T4 may be just a 1.6-litre unit, but with a turbo bolted on, it makes 180 hp and 240 Nm of twist from 1,600 to 5,000 rpm. An overboost function raises max torque to 270 Nm in spurts. That should mean that it will be fast enough for most (0-100 in 9.0s top speed 225 km/h), while costing just RM90 in road tax. Combined consumption is 7.4 litres per 100 km. Both engines are mated to a six-speed Powershift gearbox, so it’s all the latest tech in one.

Land Rover M’sia launches Range Rover Evoque

KUALA LUMPUR: Land Rover (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd yesterday officially launched the exciting all-new Range Rover Evoque for the Malaysian market.
The smallest, lightest, most fuel efficient Range Rover ever produced, completely built-up (CBU) Evoque comes in three variants, namely the two-litre Petrol Coupe Dynamic Plus – RM393,888 (Peninsular Malaysia), RM397,388 (Sabah and Sarawak), 2.0L Petrol 5-Door Prestige – RM363,888(Peninsular Malaysia), RM367,388 (Sabah and Sarawak), 2.2L Diesel 5-Door Prestige – RM353,888 (Peninsular Malaysia), RM357,388(Sabah and Sarawak).
DISTINCTIVELY EVOQUE: Models posing with the Range Rover Evoque 2.0L Petrol Coupe Dynamic Plus during the official launch.
The 2.0L Petrol Coupe specified with the sporty Dynamic Plus design theme and the 2.0L Petrol five-door in luxurious Prestige theme are powered by a state-of-the-art new 240PS Si4 petrol engine that combines direct fuel injection, turbo-charging and twin variable valve timing for exceptional driveability and fuel efficiency.
Meanwhile, the 2.2L diesel five-door featuring the luxurious Prestige is powered by the proven 190Ps SD4 turbo diesel engine currently found in the Land Rover Freelander 2. Both the petrol and diesel engines are matched to the latest generation AW F-21 6-speed automatic transmission with a Rotary Auto Shifter.
Land Rover Malaysia managing director Mohd Hazem Abdul Rahman revealed that the Evoque was one of the most important and exciting vehicles in a generation from Land Rover.
“With its cutting edge lines and sporty, dynamic profile, the Evoque is a game-changer for the Range Rover brand. It defines a completely new segment in the SUV market and is set to change mindsets. In the Evoque, we have for the first time, a breakthrough product that should appeal to those who have never considered a Land Rover, Range Rover or SUV before,” he said.
Although the Evoque had successfully turned the acclaimed LRX concept into reality by making a quantum leap in Range Rover design, both the coupe and five-door models remained true to the brand’s core values of premium luxury and formidable all-terrain performance and combined them with dynamic and sporty handling.
“The Evoque really does give you the best of everything – stunning concept car looks combined with day-to-day comfort and practicality and unmatched 4X4 capabilities,” Hazem added.
All three Evoque models came with 20” alloy wheels and a host of comfort and convenience features befitting a Range Rover. These included a breathtaking 11-speaker 380W audio system by high-end audio specialist Meridian, an
eight inch touchscreen with navigation system, a five inch full-colour TFT Driver Information display between the two instrument dials, an advanced Park Assist automated parallel parking system and powered tailgate.
Tech-savvy customers got the connectivity they demanded with a comprehensive package that included Bluetooth hands-free mobile phone use and audio streaming, plus a range of USB and auxiliary inputs for iPods and other portable devices, he pointed out.
The Evoque’s wide and deep trunk was able to accommodate the full length of a golf bag with clubs. Carefully designed stowage areas under the load floor added extra capacity, while 60/40 folding rear seat squabs allowed the luggage capacity to be expanded quickly and easily.
For added convenience, the Range Rover Smart Key system enabled keyless entry to the vehicle. The rear tailgate was powered for ease of opening, and can also be opened remotely using the key fob, Hazem added.

Thailand Beri Diskaun 100K Baht Untuk Pembeli Kereta Kali Pertama, Terima Aduan Dari Proton, Hyundai dan TATA

Barulah rakyat didahulukan!
Polisi kerajaan Thailand memang amat mementingkan kebajikan rakyat. Jauh berbeza dengan Malaysia yang mana kerajaannya mengambil kesempatan ke atas rakyat mereka dengan mengenakan cukai yang tinggi pada benda keperluan asas seperti kereta, rumah dan jalanraya bertol.

News: The Ferrari FF Makes Its Malaysian Debut Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli is coming to Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, August 16, 2011- The most eagerly- anticipated Ferrari FF made its Malaysian debut today in PJ and will be displayed in its showroom for the week. As Ferrari’s first four-seater, four -wheel drive car, the FF is uniquely powerful and versatile, and has aroused great interests since its international launch. There is another good news announced, that the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli, one of the most popular and successful one-make series in the world, will come to Malaysia from September 30th until October 2nd . This year is the first time that the Asia Pacific region is included in its history, and Malaysia will be the fourth round after Zhuhai in June, and Shanghai in July and August. The racers will contest a five-race series with the new 458 Challenge car to win the final championship.
“This new Ferrari takes the Prancing Horse into new territory, matching the legendary performance, style and driving excitement expected of a Ferrari with new levels of ability thanks to its unique four wheel drive system and its spacious and flexible interior which makes it the most useable and versatile supercar built by Ferrari,” says Simon Inglefield, Head of Ferrari Asia Pacific Other Countries, “And we are very delighted to announce that we will now be hosting the first ever Challenge Series in Malaysia soon, The culture and passion for racing has always been an integral part of Ferrari’s one-make championship, which has been shared with many of our customers here in Asia Pacific.
The Ferrari FF is a four-seater that utterly changes the whole GT sports car concept, hailing nothing short of a revolution in the auto world. Even the most cursory glance at the FF’s sleek, Pininfarina-penned super model profile will tell you that.
Drive it - anywhere, any time, in any weather or road conditions – and you’ll know why it’s so radical. It may be a car that has elegance, beauty and art in its soul, but there’s much, much more to the FF than sophisticated allure. It was, in fact, designed specifically to tackle the toughest, most complex and ambitious of driving challenges. The kind of challenges that the most uncompromising and discerning drivers will want to set it. Drivers that demand their cars give of their all. Effortlessly. Regardless of weather or surface.
The FF will more than match anything that’s asked of it because it is quite simply the most versatile car ever produced by the pens, computers, monkey wrenches and milling machines of the Prancing Horse technicians, engineers, designers and mechanics.
The FF: a name, as we said, inspired by the car’s four generous, body-hugging seats and, more significantly, the new Prancing Horse-patented four-wheel drive system. Purists will be overjoyed to know that it is still the rear wheels that actually provide the power, with torque being transferred only to the front axle when required and even then intelligently and predicatively distributed to all four wheels. Yet another reason why this is the most versatile Ferrari ever built.
But take note: the FF is also the most exclusive GT on the market, the very pinnacle of achievement in the “extreme GT” segment, the most powerful four-seater in the world. It has it all: exceptional, class-topping performance that pushes its signature Ferrari thoroughbred DNA and driving pleasure to the utmost, regardless of weather or terrain. Even on snow, ice and dirt.
The FF also sets a new benchmark in terms of sheer innovation: it is the first four-wheel drive V12 with a rear-mounted electronic differential, the E-Diff.
The Ferrari-patented four-wheel drive system is unique of its kind and also integrated with the new generation F1-Trac traction control developed specifically for the track. The FF is also the first and only V12 in the world to sport the seven-speed dual-clutch F1 gearbox with 20% more power output and 25% lower fuel consumption. It offers four occupants superb in-car comfort with wraparound seats and absolutely unprecedented cabin and luggage space for a car in its category.
The FF’s architecture too ticks all the boxes with authentic sports car driving dynamics, braking and suspensions. It also boasts the best weight-power ratio ever achieved, thanks in part to the fact that its patented four-wheel drive system is just 50% the weight of a traditional version. Style-wise, the FF is sculptural yet streamlined: it has an innovative shooting brake shape, modern styling cues, and third millennium aerodynamic and conceptual solutions to underscore its sporty stance. It is also unique on several levels: for instance, the paints used for its livery were specifically designed for it and the leathers that adorn its interiors have been given an innovative treatment to enhance their natural beauty.
The FF is tailored to perfection to suit the exclusive style of its owner. It’s as much a car for day-to-day driving as it is for extraordinarily unique occasions. Everything aboard the FF is tailored specifically to the needs and tastes of its driver with a choice of six exclusive colours and the finest Frau aniline leathers specially treated to enhance their natural softness. The FF’s exceptional specification enhances in-car enjoyment for all four occupants. Features include a new rear-seat infotainment system with two screens for watching TV and DVD and a 1,280 Watt, 16-channel stereo system with Dolby Surround Sound.
FF, 458 Italia, Ferrari California and 599 GTB Fiorano today represent the complete and comprehensive range ever, offering a different kind of Ferrari for every different kind of Ferrarista.

Model: 2011 VW Polo GTI

Where does the Polo GTI fit in the world of competitive hot hatches? A modern day hot hatch is practically a scaled down performance car with all the essentials of a family commuter. The latest Polo GTI excels in almost all the attributes one could ask for in a compact superhatch. The latest 2011 Polo GTI can pretty much be summed up as "Honey I Shrunk the Golf GTI".

Inside the Small GTI

Knowing where the Polo stand in the VW Family, one should expect the Polo GTI to be small. It is almost like the New MINI but with less bulk and gimmick in its surrounding panels providing a sense of space.

But you're still going to elbow touch your passenger now and then. Minimalistic is a good thing sometimes, but the Polo GTI may just a little too bare for critics.

Though the shiny GTI bits do make up for what's lacking. It is also a vast improvement when compared to it's 1.8T predecessor. You also get a panoramic sunroof.

Outside the Small GTI

It's a bittersweet one, this. The Polo GTI has the aggressive good looks of its bigger Golf brother. Bi-Xenon headlights fashioned with Daytime running lights, subtle red stripes on its hexagonal grille - a GTI feature, and large 17" Detroit wheels.

However, the Polo is inherently lower in hierarchy to the Golf and this is immediately apparent when you approach the rear. You get the LED rear clusters which is a cool thing, the GTI rear tailpipes and badge draws attention away from its petite, awkward rear-end.

For the First time, VW Malaysia now offers both the 5-door and 3-door variants, with the 3-door being about RM3000 cheaper than the RM135,888.00 5-door. In terms of looks, The 3-door is aesthetically sportier but it sure doesn't leave the 5-door crying for attention. In fact they're both equally desirable and some may even agree that the 5-door prove to be more proportionately correct than the 3-door.

Driving the small GTI

Now this is where every flaw one could find in the Polo GTI is forgotten. There is no car I can think of in this class that could perform or is loaded like the Polo GTI. 7-speed DSG, 180bhp twin charged 4-cylinder, Electronic LSD, great factory brakes, and all in a small package. a package that weighs just over 1,200kgs. It just doesn't get anymore sinful than this.

Driving it in Sepang only allows you to exploit its capabilities to the limits. Most would think a 1.4L shopping cart in an F1 circuit would be an exhaustive effort but it is not the case for the Polo GTI. Surprisingly, it is as if not more enjoyable to drive than a Golf GTI on a track day. With a perky low-end and handful mid-range injected by the twin-chargers, the Polo GTI just can't wait to go. It has 90% Golf GTI power in a smaller chassis so it is nice and punchy.

The DSG box is quick and faultless. Sprinting off the line is a classic VW GTI feel with the iconic sputter at every change that is more apparent than in say, a Scirocco or Golf 1.4 TSI, this could be from the easier breathing GTI exhaust. For spritied driving, it is simply a must to operate in manual mode to take full advantage of the car, at least during downshifting. Upshifting is naturally taken care of in S-mode.

Stopping the baby GTI at speed, is full of feel especially when downshifting is instructed by hand. One can hardly complain about its brakes, though it may squirm a little under heavy usage. But good brakes otherwise. It will not downshift fast enough in auto so the untrained may receive the scare of their life when late-braking.

The XDS is essentially an Electronic LSD and is a fantastic feature. It should be made compulsory on all future hot-hatches. The Golf GTI has it and it truly changes the way an FF car carve corners. It allows for maximum amount of throttle input in any sharp turn while eliminating wheelspin. XDS detects and processes difference in wheel rotational speed from ABS sensors and apply brakes to the individual wheel resulting in zero wheelspin. So no more understeer for heavy footed drivers. You can mash the throttle in, the revs will climb but somehow the car remains composed and follows through without drama. Totally unreal.

Our Verdict?

Having just driven the Polo GTI on the circuit for a couple of laps was enough to determine the baby GTI means business. It is a GTI to be respected and not something cute and cuddly with a gimmicky GTI badge slapped on and big wheels. It is not to be compared to the Golf GTI but somehow it drives like a Golf GTI that has yet to reach puberty. I love everything about the Polo GTI and can ignore its physical flaws but its size is something to be thought about. If you're in the market for a small car that will slay almost anything in the city, this is for you. We're waiting for a second, longer duration test drive that will see it perform in real-life scenarios, and especially up in the hills. So fingers crossed.

News: Empire Shopping Gallery Explosion

SUBANG JAYA: Four people were injured while more than 300 were rescued and evacuated after a suspected gas leak caused an explosion on the lower ground floor of the Empire Shopping Gallery here early Wednesday.
Firemen assessing the damage from the explosion.
Firemen from the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Department also rescued four other people who were trapped at the lower ground floor of the complex, which also houses a hotel.
The injured, including a Nepali security guard and a local, who sustained cuts caused by falling shattered glass, were sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre for treatment.
The 3.45am explosion damaged two other floors in the complex. It also caused damage to the adjoining office block and studio apartments.
The scene at the Empire Shopping complex Wednesday morning.
Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Department station chief Mohd Khairi Daud said they were assisted by their colleagues from Petaling Jaya and surrounding areas in evacuating the hotel guests, numbering more than 300 people.
The damage to the lower and ground floor of the mall was caused by the impact of the explosion rather than fire, said Selangor Fire and Rescue Department deputy director of operations Mohd Sani Harul.
"The first fire engine that arrived at the scene took only about five minutes to put out the fire in some areas," he said.
Mohd Sani said inspectors from the Public Works Department (JKR) and civil construction consultants had examined the pillars and structures of the building to determine the extent of the damage.

News: MSS returns with a bang with debut of Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli

29 SEPTEMBER 2011, BY SEPANG INTERNATIONAL CIRCUIT
THE Malaysian Super Series (MSS) returns this weekend with a bang as the popular and successful one-make series - Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli - makes its debut at the Sepang International Circuit.

Sepang will be the fourth stop over after two races in Shanghai and Zhuhai and promises a whole level of excitement than before with 458 Challenge lining up the grid, specially engineered for racing with Formula One traction control system.

Developed in-house by Ferrari, the F1-Trac system constantly monitors levels of grip for maximum high-performance road-holding and is the same technology used by competing cars during F1.

The series is now in its nineteenth year and, in addition to the usual three series – Italy, Europe and North America – for this year, there is another for those owners based in the Asia Pacific region, who will contest a five-race series.

Racers from China, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Taiwan and South Korea will converge in Sepang in hopes of winning the last race of the series in Asia.

Over twenty competitors at the wheel of the 458 Challenge will run in two separate classifications of Trofeo Pirelli and Coppa Shell.

“This is the first time we are racing in Sepang. We came here because the Sepang track is one of the best in Asia and we want to provide only the best to our drivers,” said Head of Corse Clienti Ferrari Asia Region, Andrea Reggiani when met at the pits.

“Among the interesting features of the Ferrari Challenge is the cars which are designed specifically for racing, incorporating a technology from Ferrari Experience in F1,” added Reggiani.

Meanwhile, the third round for bikes will act as a dress rehearsal for the upcoming Malaysian MotoGP support race weekend on the 21-23 October.

All the riders will get their chance to share the limelight on MotoGP race weekend as they take to the stage a few hours before their heroes, Casey Stoner, Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi do battle in the premier class of the MotoGP.

But before that, there is still some unfinished business to attend to as reigning Supersports champion, Mohd Zamri Baba continues his rivalry with Ahmad Fuad Baharuddin.

Zamri, on a Yamaha R6 has left all his rivals trailing in his wake with Ahmad Fuad giving a good fight on his Kawasaki ZX6R but still not enough to close the gap with last year’s Moto2 wildcard with Zamri now holding a commanding lead after 2 rounds.

In the Superbike category, Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman who is in the running for a wildcard spot in Moto2 alongside Zamri and Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah will somehow find a way to shake off the   bridesmaid tag as he finds himself up against nemesis, Glenn Allerton from Australia.

In the GT class for cars, the absence of Sri Lankan speed demon, Dilantha Malaguwa who is in Japan for the Asian GT will be capitalized by defending champion, Mok Weng Sun from Singapore in hopes of closing the gap on his closest rival and runaway leader this year.

Fans are invited to come and watch the inaugural Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli and other exciting events this Saturday with the qualifying sessions scheduled at 1.40 pm onwards while the program for race day begins 8.45 am Sunday.
